The newest mall in Cheras celebrates the annual festival in a big way.
Today's moon cakes come in a myriad of flavours.
It’s time to savour the moon cakes and ignite the lanterns again. The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as Moon Cake Festival, Moon Festival or Harvest Moon Festival, is celebrated on the 15th day of the 8th month of the Chinese lunar calendar.
Traditionally, the festival is a time for family get-togethers and thanksgiving. It is also a time for businesses to up the ante especially where moon cakes are concerned.

Old-fashioned moon cakes are flour crusts filled with either red bean or lotus seed paste and may contain salted egg yolks. Today, there are a myriad of crusts and fillings made of ingredients such as chocolate, durian, mango, and even cream cheese!
It is with this in mind that Sunway Velocity Mall brings you Mid-Autumn Serenity 2017. The campaign is on till 4 October at the Ground Floor Main Atrium, featuring a mesmerizing set-up that aptly reflects and represents the Mid-Autumn theme.
You can buy your moon cakes at the mall from household moon cake brands and vendors such as Renaissance Hotel, Hilton Hotel, Purple Cane, Overseas Restaurant, Casahana, Sheraton Imperial Hotel, Dragon-I, Inside Scoop, HK Mei Xin, Tai Thong, JDX, Yu-Ai, The Baker’s Cottage and Grand Imperial.
Businesses parade their moon cake supplies at a shopping centre.
This affair also encompasses a unique Lantern-making Competition, Mid-Autumn Colouring Contest, Cultural Day collaboration with the ‘Pesta Tanglung’ of the University of Malaya and even a Little Miss Cheongsam talent time.
A special Lucky Dip is also running where every RM100 spent in a single receipt from participating vendors scores you a chance to draw for special prizes worth up to RM10, 000.
To officially usher in the Mid-Autumn Serenity campaign, a media launch was held on 20 September. Highlights of the day included the presence of 13 finalists in the Lantern-making Competition with the winners being announced on the spot. Representatives from Bodhi Homecare Cheras also graced the event. They were presented with a donation from proceeds admirably raised by the ‘Pesta Tanglung’ (of the University of Malaya).

Another fun activity was the Little Miss Cheongsam Competition. For kids aged 5 to 9 years old, the competition was open to the first 30 contestants who signed up. Essentially, contestants were required to look their best and show off their talents on stage for 60 seconds to win prizes.
